🔹 General Information

What is SOMC Housing?

State of Mind Collective (SOMC) Housing provides shared, all-inclusive housing for young adults (ages 18–24) in Chicago who are experiencing housing instability or displacement.
We operate as a private landlord, not a licensed care facility or transitional housing provider.

  • Be able to sign and follow a month-to-month lease agreement

What’s included in the rent?

  • Fully furnished private or shared bedroom

  • All utilities (electric, gas, water, trash)

  • High-speed internet and shared streaming access

  • Laundry access (in-unit or nearby facilities)

Where are the homes located?

Our residences are located in safe, transit-accessible neighborhoods throughout the City of Chicago.
Exact addresses are shared only with approved applicants and referring agencies.

Is SOMC a transitional housing program?

No. SOMC Housing is not a program or licensed provider.
We offer private rental housing, not services, treatment, or supervision.
Residents live independently under standard lease agreements.

🔹 Referrals & Leasing

How can someone request housing?

Referrals are typically submitted by partner agencies.
Eligible young adults may also inquire directly using the referral form.

Can youth apply directly, without an agency?

Yes — while most residents come through agency referrals, direct inquiries are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Priority is given to referrals with verified funding support.

What is the lease structure?

We use a month-to-month rental agreement.
There is no long-term commitment, and residents may leave with standard notice.

What is the cost of rent?

We offer private and shared room options.
Final pricing is determined in discussion with referring agencies or applicants, based on room type, funding source, and availability.

What if someone doesn’t have income or employment?

We partner with social service agencies that can assist with rent sponsorship or subsidies (e.g., RRH, ESG, DCFS, or flex funds).
At this time, SOMC Housing cannot accept housing vouchers.

🔹 Rules & Expectations

Is there staff on-site or supervision provided?

No. SOMC Housing is an independent living environment.
There is no on-site staff or supervision.
Residents manage their own schedules and responsibilities, similar to any standard rental.

  • Follow shared-space etiquette (cleanliness, quiet hours, mutual respect)

  • Respect roommates and property

  • Adhere to their lease agreement

Can a resident be asked to leave?
